HIKING SUNGLASSES

Have you already packed your hiking socks, hiking shoes, hiking watch and are you ready for your next mountain excursion? Wait, you’re missing a pair of sunglasses! It is not fun, in fact, to walk all day in the blinding snow or be hit by a gust of wind that brings with it dust and dirt without technical glasses for the mountain. We at DEMON have created a guide to help you choose the best sunglasses for the mountain for your hiking outings.

In the market there are many items that can be compatible with hiking. In fact, fishing glasses have lenses very similar to those used for hiking. We suggest avoiding the use of fashionable glasses as they are not as enveloping as sports eyewear, therefore less efficient.

The Hiking glasses of the DEMON line are unisex, with ultra-light frames and anti-breaking polycarbonate lenses of the highest quality for maximum safety during your mountain excursion.

MAXIMUM PROTECTION FROM UV RAYS:

UV rays are ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun. While some UV wavelengths are visible (such as “black light”), the harmful UV rays you need to worry about are invisible. UV rays are a kind of insidious and hidden ray of light that can cause serious damage to the eye with long-lasting exposure.

There are three spectra of UV rays: the lower spectrum, the average spectrum and the upper spectrum.

Lower spectrum: it is made up of UVA rays, probably the best known.

Average spectrum: it is made up of UVB rays, which are more powerful and harmful than UVA rays.

Upper spectrum: consisting of UVC rays and are by far the most powerful of UV light.

Hiking sunglasses: Types of Lenses

Before talking about frames, we think it’s the case to treat the lenses because they are the most important part of your hiking glasses as they reflect light, UV rays and blue light. Numerous types are available in the shops and this could send you into confusion and that’s why we decided to talk about the main ones here:

– The polarized lens offers protection from UV rays, but not only: in fact, this special type of lens is able to concentrate or diverge the light rays and to attenuate the UV-A and UV-B radiations through a polarizing filter that eliminates transverse reflexes.

These lenses allow you to shield the glare and those annoying reflections that are created when sunlight is reflected on reflective surfaces, such as the wet asphalt of the road, a mirror of water or a metal surface.

The advantages of polarized lenses are:

  • Better perception of contrast
  • Clearer vision
  • No modification of natural colors
  • Elimination of transverse reflexes

Mountain and Hiking: Polarized lenses are very performing for hiking, also especially when the UV are more intense, they allow a greater relaxation for the eyes even for very prolonged use and with very intense light condition.

– The category 3 smoke lens for mountain glasses is an excellent lens for those who practice hiking, in fact it is clearer than the category 4 lenses generally used for mountaineering. The smoke category 3 mountain lens is particularly recommended for excursions below 3000m and is able to better protect the eyes of the trekker with very intense sunny days even for very prolonged use.

All lenses in the hiking glasses collection are unbreakable in top quality polycarbonate. Not only are the eyes protected from light and UV rays, but also in the event of accidental impacts. The lenses of mountain glasses with smoke lenses are also studied in the aspect of safety. Polycarbonate is the best material for building safe lenses for sports glasses.

In the event of a very strong impact the lens distributes the shock throughout the surface avoiding the creation of small fragments that could damage the eye. Forming a spider web effect that invalidates the lens.

Frame of hiking glasses:

Ultra-light and elastic frames: All the frames of the hiking glasses with smoke lenses are in TR90, a special composition of Nylon and Carbon fiber. The composition is hypoallergenic and does not irritate the skin even for prolonged use and with prohibitive weather conditions. The TR90 is 20% lighter than the material used for frames constructed with conventional materials, more resistant to high and low temperatures, more resistant to impact and mechanical traction and more durable over time. The rubber parts are in soft Megol, an allergic material that improves comfort and increases the grip of the glasses and stability to the face.

Mountain Accessories:

The ASPEN model is equipped with a removable sweat sponge, also hypoallergenic and serves to prevent lateral filtering of the light and to protect the eyes more from air and cold. The MASTERPIECE – SOLID – ASPEN – CURVE models are equipped with an adjustable and removable elastic cord that increases the stability of the glasses to the face. The MASTERPIECE model is equipped with removable side bulkheads at will to make the glasses less “mountain” if also used for other sports.

Some models are also equipped with a removable elastic cord for greater stability of the glasses in the most delicate phases.
